Announcement of Captains and Updates: (June 24th, 2016)

posted Jul 4, 2016, 7:36 AM by Steven Sherman   [ updated Jul 8, 2016, 6:39 AM ]
Hello cheer family!

Our cheerleaders have worked extremely hard this week choreographing their camp dances and getting to know each other as a team. Due to the amount of conflicts we have next week I have cancelled practice for Varsity for Monday and Tuesday. I have cancelled practice for JV for Wednesday and Thursday.

This means the updated schedule for next week is as follows:
  • Monday 6/27 and Tuesday  6/28 practice from 8-11am for JV ONLY
  • Wednesday 6/29 and Thursday 6/30 practice from 8-11 am for VARSITY ONLY
Dances will be completed next week and cheerleaders will also receive videos of cheers to begin learning. Plenty to work on at home!

Practice will start back up following the holiday week on 7/11 at 8 am for BOTH TEAMS. I want you all to enjoy the fourth of July and think about family not cheer. From 7/4 - 7/8 I will be observing the VHSL dead period. This is a mandatory time for me to not contact any of you and let you have a complete break from our sport. If you contact me during this time I will get back to you promptly on 7/9.

We have had an amazing response from you all offering to drive to camp at VA Tech in August. Thank you all so much! Below you will find our tentative riding groups. Please let me know if anything changes and you cannot drive or decide you want to go as well so we can make changes. I tried not to fill all cars when planning this to make room for luggage and camp gear. (you can imagine how much space this takes!!)

You can expect a list of what to bring to camp and our camp itinerary by this Monday.
Thank you all for getting your deposits and conflict sheets to me! We are now registered for camp and will have our camp wear and other apparel items on the way :) If you need copies of any of the documents sent (demerit info, standards, camp info, etc.) or explanations of them PLEASE don't hesitate to let me know!

Lastly, I would like to take a moment to recognize and congratulate this year's captains and our first athletes of the week for this season for both Varsity and JV.

Varsity Captains
  • Alex F
  • Karlea J
  • Kayla B
Jounior VarsityCaptain
  • Madeline C
  • (JV co-captain will be selected in the coming weeks)
Athletes of the Week:
Varsity athlete of the week is Madison H.  Madison came back after a year off from cheering and jumped right back in better than ever! She has based in the past and without hesitation jumped into the position of flyer when asked this week. She did amazing and I am so proud of her commitment to doing whatever she can to help our team. That is a true team player!

Junior Varsity Athlete of the Week is Deme M!  Deme is a new freshman, but you would never know it! Not only has Deme already proven that she can hang with even our most seasoned girls, but she continues to help and encourage others in a positive and compassionate way. We are very lucky to have such a natural leader in our program.

Aside from our captains and spotlight athletes this week I want to congratulate each of the girls for getting this first week off to an amazing start. Everyone who made it to practice this week worked very hard and had amazing attitudes. Even our girls that had to missed have checked in with me asking how to catch up and stay in shape. We truly have an amazing group and each parent should be proud. I look forward to seeing each of our girls achieve their personal goals this year and grow as a team. Keep pushing your daughters to be the best leaders they can be.

Have an amazing weekend and GO FALCONS!!
